Profile on the Blazer Band

The Americas High School Band

There is a certain legacy that the band has kept since the very beginning. It has a history of 22 years of being one of the best in the city, and this year’s marching band has done a great job of keeping that legacy.IMG_4729

This year, started off rough for them. They started off in 7th place at the T-Bird Marching Competition at Coronado High School. Then went onto getting a Division 1 at Franklin High School for the EPISD Marching Competition. Their season had its ups and downs, but ended in the UIL Area Marching Competition in Odessa.

Many band members believed it to be difficult to rank for finals at area, due to their struggle the week before at SISD Marchfest. Siria Jansen, saxophone, believes, “Had we not had a good performance or more errors I think we could have been pushed below that 7th place to make finals, and I was really shocked we made it. I think we had to give it everything in order to do that and push hard for it.”IMG_4727

Although they had a rough start, the band was one of the top seven to still make finals and later performed their show once again for the judges. They fought their way to the very end of their season. Sadly, the Blazer Band didn’t make it to state, and their season came to an end at the UIL Area Competition.

Jose-Angel Rivas, a vibraphone, believes, “We had a great season, and of course it could have gone better, like all things in life, but I know we have a lot of people in band that are trying their best and that’s all any of us can really do.” At the UIL Area competition, there were many ups and downs for this great band, and they were able to redeem themselves from a rough start to their season.

IMG_4730Izasak Mesaros, a mellophone, on his last thought of the season, “Our season ended well because we redeemed ourselves from our last competition. It was astonishing to make finals because we were the smallest band out there.” The Americas Band has only about 126 members. This is a small number because they only have about 100 marchers on the field.

“Overall, our run at area was one of the best runs when it came to passion, determination, and heart and I couldn’t be more proud of my band.” Alondra Sanchez, the drum major believed the Blazer band did an amazing job at this Area competition and believes that in the coming years they could strive to be the best.
