Reinforce Gun Control

downloadAccording to Annuals of Internal Medicine, ninety-seven deaths occur in the U.S. every single day due to gun violence. In fact, Time Magazine states, “it is more likely for fifteen to twenty-four-year-olds to die from gun homicide than it is in any other wealthy country.” The re-occurrence of gun violence should be more contained by creating stricter regulations rather than giving students and employees a protocol to follow when gun violence does transpire in their work place or school.

Stricter Regulations

The Las Vegas shooting passed all federal required background checks even though the sixty-four-year-old man suffered from mental illness. This deadly mass shooting resulted in over fifty deaths and more than eight hundred individuals injured. A resolution proposed by the American Journal of Public Health is requiring states to report people involuntarily committed for psychiatric treatments or declared mentally incompetent. A national online survey performed by the American Journal of Public Health in 2017 reveals that gun owners and non-gun owners both heavily agree with the new suggested policy.

Firearm Incidents

Many individuals are unaware of how strong one has to be to shoot a firearm. A study research performed by Annals of Internal Medicine uncovers that some three-year-old’s can apply a good amount of force in order for the firearm to go off. The research has also found that by the time children enter school, about seventy-five percent of them can fire a gun. Time Magazine recommends doctors to begin teaching parents about the safety protocols of owning a firearm with children in their environment such as locking up guns within the home prevents teenagers and kids from using them when not at use. However, many gun owners do not agree with the suggestion because they believe their children are aware to be cautious with the weapon though they are vastly curious creatures.

Families Affected

There over ninety families affected everyday by this act of violence. This high number could be detained by ensuring safety with gun control, not with protocols made for potential victims such as schools. The process a school undergoes when there is reason for it to be cautious of their surroundings has saved many lives. Yet, the gun control laws remain brittle and families are still affected. Imagine the heartbreak and anxiety such incidents cause. Imagine being told your family member got shot and that they are severely injured. How would you react? What changes would you make from that experience?

Lets Make A Difference

.The Bill of Rights states the right to bear arms, but that law was created for people to protect themselves, not to cause destruction and take innocent lives away. Individuals from third world countries move to the U.S. to live the American Dream, when in reality America is the country located in the western hemisphere with the worse mass shootings.
